UNM regents could select new president Thursday morning

University of Idaho President Chuck Staben was passed over for the job of president at the University of New Mexico.

Stokes was among five finalists who were chosen as part of a national search. Stokes has been serving as provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Missouri. She is the first female president in UNM history.

The University of New Mexico Board of Regents is expected to select the school's next president during a special meeting Thursday.

Chuck Staben has been criticized for deciding to opt the University of Idaho out of the NCAA football division one to join the Big Sky Conference.

The previous president, Bob Frank, left the office past year.

A couple months ago some school faculty pushed to keep interim president Chaouki Abdallah through Spring of 2019 but were unsuccessful.
