Women activist Nilanjana Chakraborty on Monday condemned the triple talaq by an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) professor to his wife on WhatsApp and said such actions can not be accepted from an educated person.

Several women activists lashed out at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) professor who recently gave triple talaq to his wife via WhatsApp and text message, despite Supreme Court declaring the practice illegal.

She also threatened to end her life in front of the vice-chancellor's house along with her kids if "justice is not done" to her. After a month, I divorced her for the second time verbally and sent it via SMS, so triple talaq has not happened yet.

Women rights activist condemns AMU triple talaq caseAfter an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) professor gave triple talaq to his wife on WhatsApp, women rights activist Nilanjana Chakraborty said if educated people, like professors from respectable universities, did such things, they would expect even worse from others. "I later got to know that she was not even a graduate, unlike what she had claimed", said the professor, adding that he will go ahead with the talaq as per the Sharia law and that no one can stop him from getting the talaq. "I don't care what she does".

Professor Khan's wife has not just gone to the police against him but has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleging that he has violated a Supreme Court order banning instant triple talaq by uttering the word "talaq" or divorce three times.

He claimed that he was the real victim in the case since his wife hid facts about her before marriage.

Though Yasmeen has sought police help to enter her house, she has not registered any complaint with them so far.

"He (Khan) turned me out of the house and I have been running from pillar to post to get justice".

He said that according to the law, he had served two notices on his wife after the stipulated period and was preparing for the last one. She alleged that he gave her talaq wrongly on WhatsApp and then as a text message. He said he had sent her a notice and informed her verbally.
