Arsenal midfielder and German national player Mesut Özil has been reportedly contacted by Atletico Madrid with an offer to join the team in the summer, replacing Saul Niguez who is expected to transfer to Manchester United. However despite only having eight months remaining on his current deal, there has been very little interest from clubs wanting to sign the playmaker.

Ozil is yet to reveal what his plans are with regards to penning - or not penning - a new deal with Arsenal, and time is fast running out with the 28-year-old's contract due to end in June 2018.

Ozil has won three FA Cup trophies since joining the North London based outfit.

However, according to The Sun today, Atletico Madrid have made contact with Ozil's representatives regarding a potential return to Spain.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone is looking to take advantage of the uncertaincy at the Emirates by offering Ozil a deal of around £200,000-a-week, with a huge signing on fee as free agent at the end of the season.

Atleti are well aware of the importance of Saul and committed the player to a massive nine-year deal last summer, in a deal that saw his exit clause raised to a mammoth £133million (€150m).

And despite to crticism, the playmaker has pitched in with 33 goals in all competitions, 25 in the Premier League with 44 assists.
