Ben Roethlisberger: NFL needs to 'get rid of' Thursday night games

In addition to leading the division, the Titans also come into this Thursday night contest riding a 4 game winning streak. "Just play on Mondays and Sundays". I'd say take Pittsburgh to cover if Mariota doesn't play.

"It's easier because that is something you have, it's been in since day one", said Roethlisberger.

Add Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to the list that already included Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin and Bills lineman Richie Incognito, players unafraid to describe what's happening in Thursday night football games that they believe shouldn't exist. It's hard to execute sharp game plans when you're still exhausted.

During the Seahawks-Cardinals game, almost a dozen players went down with some sort of injury.

Ben Roethlisberger selling a play fake. During an interview on Monday with 93.7 The Fan, a CBS Sports Radio station in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger ripped the idea of Thursday games and called on the National Football League to just get rid of them. "They just need to get rid of this game, I think".

"Everything, and I don't know", said Roethlisberger.

The Steelers play the Titans at Heinz Field this Thursday. Those are the guys you have the biggest questions about, I haven't seen one iota of doubt, question or anything from them. We are a pretty beat up football team and to turn around in two days and go out play another physical football team is tough. You've got to let your body recover a little bit.

They are 7-0 over the past two seasons in games decided by four points or fewer and a seven-point start on the spread in Pennsylvania looks attractive with another close encounter very much on the cards. Even a week, you're not still fully recovered Sunday to Sunday. Obviously a team with a losing record isn't going to challenge you much so it's safe to say that the Steelers are looking ahead each Sunday to keep themselves focused on the goal.

It's remarkable that the league continues to turn a blind eye to these issues while the players basically beg for a reprieve from these games that are putting their health and careers at risk. That's a huge reason why so many Thursday night games are just crap to watch.
