The Ivorian has confirmed that he will hang up his boots for good after the next season with Phoenix Rising, the club he is also part-owner of.

Once Chelsea's man for the big occasion, Didier Drogba has chose to call a day on his football career.

Drogba spent the 2016-17 season in the MLS with Montreal Impact.

And Drogba, who lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy with Chelsea in 2012, has announced he will bring down the curtain on a 20-year career in the game.

Drogba has turned out for a total of eight clubs in a decorated career at the top, with his finest work coming in two spells with Chelsea.

Now with Phoenix Rising, Drogba told RMC: "What I am going to say about Marseille is sensitive and will be reported".

"Ah, do you want a scoop?"

Drogba further said, "At some point, you have to stop".

As if scripted, it was Drogba who stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly found the back of the net to give Chelsea their first ever Champions League victory.

Drogba has been playing for Phoenix since the turn of the year, where he has scored 10 times in his 14 appearances.

"I need time for my other projects".

The Ivory Coast all-time top-scorer has repeatedly been linked with a move back to Stamford Bridge in a non-playing capacity, it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
