Jake Hager - the man formerly known in WWE as Jack Swagger - is on his way to the world of MMA after signing a deal with Bellator.

Swagger was once a college wrestling star before joining the WWE. I'd like to fight twice in 2018, ' confirmed Swagger to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour today.

"I mean if you look at my background and how popular combat sports are now, then it is one hell of an opportunity but also one hell of a risk which could be an even greater reward", Hager said at the time. After an over decade-long run with the company, Hager chose to ask for his release from WWE back in March and was ultimately granted it.

Hager was a two-sport athlete in the University of Oklahoma.

'I'm not a freak show coming in to take some money, I'm here to compete and be a champion'. And I think it becomes very obvious this is why I left the WWE.

Swagger also said that he and his team reached out to Bellator about signing, and Bellator ultimately made the offer. "My good friend Josh Rafferty has done MMA and pro-wrestling so we are always talking about it". "We started negotiations, and what not, and it literally got finalized this weekend".

"It's still a little bit shocking", Hager said. It's something I wanted to do for a long time and, let's be honest, it's something that has been a part of me. Swagger's jump will undoubtedly be a big event, and he'll be joining the ranks of Bellator which include Ryan Bader, Julia Budd, Darion Caldwell and Ilima-Lei MacFarlene.
