Philadelphia Eagles: Sunday alternatives for fans in bye week

Some people feel that the Bye Week came at a wrong time for the Eagles since they were red hot and had shown they are the best team in football. As the players gathered at the NovaCare Complex on Monday for their first practice since blowing out Denver on November 5, that much was obvious. How about losing to a division rival, who are coming off a bye week?

Darby was acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Bills in the middle of the preseason. Darby suffered a dislocated ankle in the season opener and hasn't played since.

As expertly as Prescott has played in his first two seasons, he has had Elliott next to him for every game except last year's season finale at Philadelphia when coaches held out the running back.

As good as Wentz has been, the Eagles also are among the National Football League rushing leaders and recently acquired 2016 Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi from the Miami Dolphins.

"I haven't been on a team like this in a long time since Florida State, just how they fly to the ball", Darby said. "I have some shoes to fill in", Darby said. This is where they could leapfrog our beloved Boys at 9-1, creating extra distance to capture the division crown. And if I'm real winded ... "As I said, I'm not going to put everything on them, I'm going to look back at the film and see what we could've done better as a unit". They have a defensive front that is better than Atlanta's.

Last year, these teams split but that's a bit misleading.

A big piece of pie for some major peace of mind.

"It feels really good, to be honest", Darby said. "I'm definitely going to make them proud of me".

Jernigan has 20 tackles this season.

In Darby's absence, the Eagles' secondary has thrived with cornerback Jalen Mills playing at a Pro Bowl level, rookie third-round pick Rasul Douglas contributing and Patrick Robinson exceeding expectations after moving into the team's nickel cornerback role.

They also signed veteran free agent linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, who had been out of a job since a broken foot kept him from passing a physical with the New Orleans Saints in the preseason. Can the Eagles replicate the success the Falcons celebrated last week? They produced eighteen sacks over the first eight games.

"I'm just trying to learn the defense and get my legs up under me and fit in where needed", he said. "You may be a little out of shape, but it'll come back fast".

Ellerbe said his ankle hasn't been an issue since training camp and felt his workout with the Eagles two weeks earlier went well.

Being a bend-don't-break defense without Darby hasn't hurt the Eagles, but they've also faced some lousy offenses in their past two games, starting with the C.J. Beathard-led 49ers and continuing with the Brock Osweiler-quarterbacked Broncos.
