The fastest version of Firefox yet is now live

There are a number of features that make Firefox Quantum a significant new entry in the browser wars, included its new CSS engine (Quantum CSS).

Despite competing against Google in the browser space, Firefox does resort to using Google as the default search engine in the US, Canada, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

"Anyone who downloads this version, which is so advanced we call it "Firefox Quantum", simply can't help but notice the speed, performance improvements, and the responsively slick new UI", wrote David Bryant in a Medium post Tuesday.

Firefox has historically run mostly on just one CPU core, but Quantum takes advantage of multiple CPU cores in today's desktop and mobile devices much more effectively.

Mozilla released a test version of Firefox Quantum web browser in September in preparation for its upcoming official debut in November.

Firefox is now worth giving a try, even if you are loyal to your Google-owned browser. Quantum CSS leverages the multi-core processors in our modern computing rigs, parallelizing work across all cores. Firefox Quantum also includes native support for WASM and WebVR to empire next generation gaming. This improved utilization of your computer's hardware makes Firefox Quantum dramatically faster. The new browser is twice as fast the version of Firefox released in 2016. If you're curious about what we did, read on. "You guessed it: the Photon UI itself is incredibly fast and smooth".

"To create Photon, our user research team studied how people browsed the web", wrote Mozilla's Mark Mayo. "Our designers created a system that scales to more than just current hardware but lets us expand in the future". If you're using Photon on a Windows PC with a touch display, the menus change size based on whether you click with a mouse or touch with a finger. A Library button gives you access to your saved content like bookmarks, your Pocket reading list, and screenshots, making extensions for these services obsolete.
