Arsenal in shock move for Man Utd midfielder

An incredibly short transfer update from Italian news outlet Calciomercato will trigger alarm bells for Arsenal and Man United fans on Wednesday.

Fellaini may also be looking for more game time because while he is a valuable squad member he is still not first choice when everyone is fit. That's unclear, as readers are giving no idea about the type of proposal Arsenal will put together to land the Belgian star.

He has been linked with a move to Turkish club Besiktas over recent months who have confirmed they are interested in signing the midfielder.

Fellaini's current contract expires at the end of the season and potentially he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another side in January.

It was said then that the Belgian was keen for United to match the salary he could potentially earn elsewhere for what is probably going to be the last "big contract", given his age.

Fellaini, 29, can sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club from January 1 and has been linked with Galatasaray, Besiktas, AC Milan, Roma and Valencia.

Manchester United fear Marouane Fellaini could leave the club for free next summer with contract talks remaining at an impasse.

Galatasaray have a long-standing interest in Fellaini but a host of foreign and Premier League clubs are expected to jostle for his signature in the event Mourinho fails to persuade him to stay at United beyond a fifth season.

Even though he is just 20, the Spanish under-21 worldwide has shown many qualities United lack as well as a maturity, and would likely cost around £40m.
