Game of Figures: 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

With the Chevy Corvette ZR1 finally out of the bag after weeks of speculation, spy shots, and renderings, it's important that we get a proper look at what's behind the praise-singing press blurb. In this form - as most powerful production Chevy ever - it gets a bigger intercooler for the Eaton supercharger and new direct-injection system.

For shifting duties, buyers can choose from a seven-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic.

And the new one announced this week really lives up to its billing, with a mighty 745bhp and 715 lb ft of torque from its supercharged V8, and a top speed, in new low-drag form, said to be 210mph plus.

The Corvette ZR1's unprecedented performance is also complemented by an aggressive appearance, including a chevron-pattered carbon-fiber halo hood and engine cover.

Helping keep everything in check are a few special aerodynamic packages. The second option is an adjustable High Wing that offers up to 950 pounds of downforce.

The new version has more power, a much smarter aero package, and crucially, Michelin's Pilot Sport Cup 2 "summer-only" tires, which will push the cornering speeds way higher than what was possible to achieve six years ago.

As for the cabin, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 features a driver-focused cockpit with leather upholstery, microfiber inserts, heated and ventilated seats, carbon fiber-rimmed steering wheel, a Bose premium audio system and more.

GM hasn't put a price tag on the 2019 Corvette ZR1, which will go on sale in the spring. Pricing and other technical specifications have yet to be revealed.
