A teaser video posted on Twitter depicted an unidentified handmaid running in the dark with a flashlight - perhaps teasing the fate of Offred (Elisabeth Moss). While the show wasn't considered a frontrunner, it impressively earned itself thirteen nominations.

Elizabeth Moss won for Outstanding Lead Actress. Reed Morano received an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for his work on the episode Offred. This is one of Hulu's best original series.

With just one season in the books, the show was a tour de force. The announcement was made alongside a brief teaser video, confirming that season 2 is now in development as well as hinting that there is "no turning back".

Exactly when The Handmaid's Tale was due to return has remained a mystery, up until this point. And Amazon has finally announced when we're going to get it: April 2018.

"We're really looking to blow people away, and we have every intention to break [the story] open and go even further in all directions".

Like the first season, The Handmaid's Tale season 2 will consist of 13 episodes with one episode released weekly.

In addition to season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale, Hulu announced the return of The Path, as well as limited series The Looming Tower and new series Hard Sun.

Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) and more will reprise their roles in the sordid dystopian society.

Amazon also listed premiere dates for three other shows. And the Hard Sun premieres March 7th. The series tells the story of a world on the brink of natural disaster.
