KU's Preston to Sit Out of Kentucky Game

Kansas is playing Kentucky tonight, but it will be doing so without heralded freshman forward Bill Preston, who recently crashed a auto and apparently touched off some sort of a micro-storm at KU.

The 6-foot-10 freshman forward was withheld from the lineup for the second straight contest, this time on the heels of single-vehicle accident on campus Saturday that has spurred a decision by KU administrators to seek more information regarding Preston's vehicle.

The key phrase here is "we needed a clearer financial picture specific" to the vehicle Preston was in. "There were no injuries but Billy's vehicle sustained damage".

"Billy was informed right before our pre-game meal". It's unclear why Preston was held out; an accident should only bar him from taking the court for physical reasons, not financial.

"Needless to say he was disappointed and crushed", Self said in the release. A few possibilities here: Kansas has some sort of encoded standard for determining discipline over a player crashing his own auto. "He was very excited to make his KU debut. Wee hop to have the situation resolved as soon as possible". He missed the Jayhawks's first game of the season against Tennessee State last week due to missing curfew and class.

Preston's absence again leaves the Jayhawks with just seven scholarship players available for Tuesday's game, only two of which are big men.
