In-demand Goretzka is out of contract at Schalke at the end of the season and several clubs are eyeing the opportunity to take him away from the Ruhr giants.

Landing the signature of Schalke's 22-year-old midfielder Goretzka will also be less than straight forward, as the German is now being courted by European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with both North London clubs, in Arsenal and Tottenham also taking an interest.

Goretzka remains one of the most sought after young players in Europe and has also been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, but it would appear that Jurgen Klopp's men still lead the race.

Ernesto Valverde's side look to be the frontrunners for Goretzka's signing, but Juventus have an impressive track record when it comes to snaffling up talented stars on free transfers. Signed from Bochum four years ago, he has become a mainstay for Schalke, who still hope they can persuade the player to stay. It's also true that we need to reflect on this squad, in terms of age, but we also realise that we have have great professionals. "I don't hide the fact we are following them both, but so too are many other teams".

The Reds were reported to agreed a deal to sign the Germany midfielder in January, however, Schalke director Christian Heidel claims that Goretzka's departure from the Veltins-Arena is not certain.
