Man Utd target Antoine Griezmann free to leave Atletico Madrid - team-mate

Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that the Argentinian is Everton owner Farhad Moshiri's top target to succeed Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park.

The two attackers went head-to-head for the Ballon d'Or a year ago after Ronaldo's Real and Portugal edged out Griezmann's Atletico and France in the Champions League and Euro 2016 finals respectively.

Of course, Atletico Madrid players are sticking to the party line of the forward wanting to be at the club, and claiming that by staying last summer when there was a real chance he could leave, it obviously means he's happy there - at least for now. "I'm absolutely sure about that".

Reports in France have suggested he has agreed to a €90 million switch to Barcelona at the end of the season, and the league leaders' head coach, Ernesto Valverde, suggested on Friday a pursuit of Griezmann was not out of the question.

26-year-old Griezmann recently denied having contact with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, and while it seemed inevitable at one point that he would leave Spain for England, Cerezo's claims have further thrown this into doubt. "And you know I do not lie to you, players go up and down, but he's fine".

"Right now, they're better and they have taken all of the good kids from all of the different Spanish teams".

"He's the most skilful player we have the most important player we have in attack". What I see in Griezmann is enthusiasm. The team is enjoying a good league campaign but we haven't seen Griezmann's best moment yet. And that's what I'm really looking forward to.

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde may rotate some key players for a game Barca are favorites to win, despite Leganes' fine start to the season and could rest either Gerard Pique or Samuel Umtiti given that both are one booking away from a suspension that would see them miss next weekend's hard trip to play second place Valencia.

"We always say if somebody doesn't like it here, he's free to leave".
