Boise State to play Fresno State for Mountain West title

Wyoming redshirt junior QB Nick Smith was announced as starter for Saturday's game against Fresno State. It's Fresno State's third championship berth in five seasons.

That also sets up an interesting scenario: Boise State (8-2) and Fresno State (8-3) will play in the Mountain West championship game December 2. The turnaround that they've made, the belief and confidence, the hard work they've put in, the coaching staff has done a phenomenal job.

In a clash highlighted by great defense on both sides, the Bulldogs did just enough with the opportunities they created to come away with a 13-7 win that, for most of the game, didn't feel that close.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a field goal in the first quarter.

Because a section of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, was closed, the team arrived at War Memorial Stadium about two hours before the start of the game.

Wyoming starting quarterback Josh Allen did not play because of a shoulder injury he sustained last week against Air Force.

The Boise State Broncos and Fresno State Bulldogs will play in the 2017 Mountain West Football Championship Game on Saturday, December 2.

Smith was 20-of-32 passing for 231 yards and a score for Wyoming (7-4, 5-2). But weather overnight made it a hard drive, even with a state trooper leading the way in a truck with a snowplow. In an apparent nod that he's likely going to opt for the National Football League draft, the redshirt junior was introduced with the Cowboys' seniors before the game. "He and I have had some talks, and I think he's going to plan on moving forward".
