Trump, repeatedly pressed on the accusations against Moore, said he took the GOP candidate at his word, when it came to his denials of the accusations.

The allegations against Moore come amid a national reckoning over misdeeds by powerful men in media, business and politics. "I mean, if you look at what is really going on, if you look at all the things that have happened over the last 48 hours, he totally denies it". Trump pointed to Moore's assertions that he did nothing wrong.

"I've looked at his record - it's awful on crime, it's bad on the border, it's bad on the military", Trump said of Moore's Democratic opponent, former U.S. Attorney Doug Jones.

According to CNN on Wednesday, Nov. 15, citing an unnamed White House source, Trump reportedly hoped to avoid commenting publicly on Moore due to his own history of being accused of sexually predatory behavior.

US Senate hopeful Roy Moore is accused of sexually inappropriate conduct with a string of teenage girls - including a 14-year-old - when he was in his 30s.

Trump had kept silent on the race, with the White House saying he believed the people of Alabama should decide whether Moore is fit to represent them in Washington.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan, both Republicans, have both called on Moore to leave the race in light of the accusations. Richard Shelby of Alabama and Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Trump, responding to allegations of sexual misconduct against Moore. That's all I can say.

Sessions said he had no reason to doubt Moore's accusers. "I think it's a very special time". Less than 4 percent said they would not vote and less than 2 percent said they would write in a candidate.

The Post story, for which more than 30 sources were interviewed, also described interviews with three more anonymous women who claim Moore "pursued" them between the ages of 16 and 18.

The campaign is quoting two former restaurant employees and a former customer who did not remember Nelson working there or Moore eating there.
