World no 3 Wan-ho took just 35 minutes to thrash Praneeth 21-8, 21-16 and to earn his third win over the Indian in as many meetings.

Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu defeated Aya Ohori of Japan 21-14, 21-17 in the second round on Thursday, making her way into the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Super Series.

While second seed Sindhu eased past Hong Kong's qualifier Leung Yuet Yee 21-18, 21-10, Saina registered a hard-fought 21-19, 23-21 win over Denmark's Mette Poulsen. Later in the day, Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy will face Malaysia-Korea duo of Khim Wah Lim Yoo Yeon Seong in men's doubles category.

In the men's section, HS Prannoy advanced to Round 2 in the men's singles section. The Indian shuttler didn't break a sweat as she cruised past Ohori to advance.

However, Commonwealth Games champion P. Kashyap squandered an opening game advantage to go down narrowly 15-21, 21-9, 22-20 to Korean Lee Dong Keun, while Sourabh Verma failed to put up a fight against Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto, losing 21-15, 21-8 to bow out.

Prannoy, now ranked 10 as per the Destination Dubai Rankings, needed to book a berth in the semifinals to be in the race, but he went down fighting to Japan's Kazumasa Sakai 21-11, 10-21, 15-21 on Thursday.
