John Leslie, the former Blue Peter presenter, has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in an Edinburgh nightclub.

He was quizzed at the Atik nightspot before being arrested and charged - although a decision from prosecutors is pending.

In early June the Scotsman reported that the club's relaunch would take place later that month, following a £450,000 refurbishment and rebrand from its previous name of Cav. "The dance floor was really busy".

Former JLS singer Marvin Humes, 32, was hired as guest DJ and chatted to Leslie during the evening. He is pals with boss Mark Cameron.

Leslie came to fame back in 1989, after presenting Blue Peter, on BBC.

He succeeded Bradley Walsh as the main presenter of the Wheel of Fortune until 2001, when Paul Hendy took over.

Leslie, who has been working for Radio Forth, had to turn down a £500,000 Celebrity Big Brother appearance.

Scenes from Danny Boyle's T2: Trainspotting were filmed at the nightclub past year, when it was still under the name of Cav.

Cops confirmed they had charged a man of 52 over the alleged sex assault on June 25.

He said: "CCTV cameras captured the whole event and the footage has been submitted by us along with witness statements to the Procurator Fiscal for consideration".
