The driver and the 19-month-old passenger were killed as a result of the crash.

The bear was killed in the accident, as were the unidentified woman and her daughter. The vehicle struck and killed the bear.

"A bear in Douglas Flat is not normal", Tracie Weaver, Rohde's mother, told KTXL.

A 4-year-old boy who was also in the auto was taken to UC Davis Medical Center after suffering minor injuries.

Harris said he was thankful the couple's son survived. As for Rohde, he says she was smart, fearless, kind and had a great sense of humor.

According to FOX 40's report, alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.

It is denning season for bears and they are out "eating anything and everything", said Andrew Hughan of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

"Unfortunately this is a sad case of wrong time, wrong place for the bear and the auto".
