Seeing the iconic "Flying 1" logo fizzle out and be replaced by a striking new badge was the ideal way to wrap up the first year of Formula One under Liberty Media.

'We set out to create a logo that captures the speed and excitement of the pinnacle of motorsport and this reveal signals the beginning of a new era for Formula One. It's early days so we're not declaring victory. "I can say I am really proud of everything I've achieved".

There may be storm clouds brewing and battles to be fought but the flamboyantly moustachioed boss, who replaced former supremo Bernie Ecclestone in January when Liberty Media completed their takeover, sounded optimistic.

The F segment of this new logo appears to be stylized to symbolically represent a corner of a racing circuit. "We will enjoy this evening - but then get our heads down, push even harder and start preparing for the next challenge".

"Every time a brand is changed, and especially a brand that arouses so much passion, you have to expect these reactions", he said. We need to understand what exactly went wrong.

"Overall I think, just little bits here and there", he added.

It is the first of a number of changes Liberty Media are to make over the winter, with a new graphics package, web and social platform as well as a new live and non-live "over-the-top" broadcasting service all confirmed by F1 commercial director Sean Bratches.

The podium finishers in Abu Dhabi have expressed their view on Formula 1's new logo, which was unvilved during the podium ceremony on Sunday. Chase Carey, chief executive and chairman of Formula One (C) arrives at starting grid of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. "As for Lewis, this has been the best performance I have seen in all five years working together - he has become more rounded as a character and just as impressive as a racer".

"There have been many races where Ferrari had the upper hand and even lately Red Bull has been really strong so it has definitely not been like the last three years".
