Crews rescued 10 manatees from a river in SC and brought them to warmer water in Florida. "Due to rapidly dropping water temperatures in the river, the manatees remained close to the warm water outflow, instead of continuing to travel south".

"The manatees were spotted in the upper reaches of the Cooper River, near a warm water outflow area".

Multiple organizations and volunteers assisted SeaWorld with the rescue operation, and helped capture eight male and two female manatees from November 28 to November 30.

Several other government and wildlife agencies, including Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, joined SeaWorld in the operation. Eight males and two female manatees were rescued from the river. Each manatee then received a health assessment from veterinary professionals and were transported south to Florida.

SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Manager Jon Peterson told abcnews4.com nine of the manatees were safely relocated to warmer water and one was taken to the Jacksonville Zoo for care. The female manatee was showing mild signs of cold stress and is the first critical care patient at the zoo's new facility.

The public is asked to report any manatee sightings online to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources on their website.
