The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Rivers State, has unanimously endorsed Prince Uche Secondus as its sole aspirant for the position of national chairman of the party.

Section 9 of the constitution also expressly forbids such persons on probation from contesting elections on the platform of the party, a provision which may affect Atiku's chances should the party's presidential primaries be scheduled for anytime within the next one year and without the national working committee granting him a waiver.

Babangida disclosed this during a visit on Wednesday by Gov. Okowa, Ahmed Makarfi, and top officials of the party at his home in Minna, Niger State.

The former governor of Kaduna State said that the process of lawmaking "is not so democratic and the problem facing Nigeria goes beyond "nay" and "yea" because the moment we begin to reduce it to that, very sensitive issues that have telling effects on this country can be so lazily settled, we will face the consequences down the line".

"PDP will see one of the best convention like never before", IBB added.‎.

While he said that President Muhammadu Buhari was not part of the plot, he however called on him to urgently investigate the allegation and ensure that the convention was not disrupted by some "overzealous elements in the APC government".

"You have prayed for a successful convention of the PDP. That will enable us to heal faster, and unite faster after the convention". Did the PDP say why they are saying we are afraid? "He will even make a speech at the convention, but he may not be voting at the convention", he said.

"The governors did not take a decision on that and we have 25 states that are not controlled by the PDP governors; we believe more persons will come into our party and we are ready to receive them", he said. Ekos Akpokabayen has appealed to the party members worldwide to work towards achieving the most desired and expected success in the upcoming National convention.

He described Secondus as "a God-fearing man", who had paid his dues from state, zonal and national levels, adding that the former acting national chairman has the wherewithal to lead the party successfully.

"It is not the first time we find states making use of statutory delegates to avoid conflicts that have to do with the legitimacy of elected delegates. What many Nigerians, especially members of the PDP will be looking forward is a transparent and fair convention as promised by the leaders of the party", he said.
