Wembley Stadium was chosen in 2014 to host the semifinals and final.

"This means Wembley will host a total of seven matches since London was already set to stage the semi-finals and final of the tournament", it said in a statement.

Today UEFA has announced that the opening match will be played at the Olimpico, with the Group A matches to be paired between Rome and Baku.

Speaking in Nyon, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said the decision of UEFA's executive committee had been unanimous.

The building project for the new Brussels stadium for Euro 2020 had run into delays due to the applications for construction and environmental permits.

Euro 2010 is the first European Championship to be played under a new format with group games spread across a number of countries.

The Italian stadium has beaten off competition from Hampden, the Krestovsky Stadium in St Petersburg and the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, which were all vying to host the opening game.

With a capacity of 52,025, the ground has hosted the UEFA Cup final in 2007 and the Champions League final in 2002 since its redevelopment.

The Olimpico will also host one of the Quarter-Finals.

'The concept of taking Euro 2020 to 13 different countries was devised to allow smaller countries, like Wales, to have a unique opportunity of being involved in staging a major tournament.
