Cazorla starting rehab ´from zero´ after latest surgery

Arsene Wenger admits it is still unclear when Santi Cazorla may be ready to play again for Arsenal.

Cazorla, who hasn't played for nearly 14 months because of his injury hell, revealed to fans via Twitter last month that he had needed to go under the surgeon's knife yet again - the Spaniard has already endured a skin graft in an attempt to help the wound on his ankle heal.

Now, following his ninth trip to the operating theatre, the Arsenal boss has given an update on his midfielder's future. He answered, 'Look I have to start again from zero, ' basically. "What he has gone through, this guy, is unbelievable", said the Arsenal boss.

"He has to wait until he can run again, after that it will be at least another six weeks".

'When he can start to run again I don't know.

"I was hopeful of January but after, he had this setback that everybody knows about".

But Wenger insisted he was still optimistic when asked if Cazorla will ever be back.

Now, with no real end in sight for the Spaniard's toils, fans must be growing increasingly fearful that their once captain will be unable to return at all.

The Spain global is out of contract with the Gunners at the end of the campaign and it remains unlikely that they will offer him a new deal if he fails to recover and return to competitive action.

And that's assuming he doesn't suffer any further setbacks - which are inevitable - during his rehabilitation so it's looking increasingly unlikely that we'll see Cazorla play for the first team again.

Wenger also revealed Cazorla's gut-wrenching response to this latest setback in a reply to a text the French manager sent to his player.
