Cyclone warning for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, heavy rainfall likely

Day 2 (8 th Dec.): Heavy rain at isolated places is very likely over Mizoram-Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, coastal areas of Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

It is very likely to become a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours and deep depression during the subsequent 48 hours, according to the IMD bulletin issued on Tuesday.

However, there is a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva and Central provinces and in the Hambantota and Ampara districts. Widespread rain is expected in coastal districts and many places in interior districts till December 10, the director of local met office, S C Sahu said.

As many as 18 districts including Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajpati, Rayagada and Malkangiri are to be affected due to the deep depression and would experience more rainfall.

The met office advised hoisting of Distant Cautionary Signal Number One (DC-I) at Paradip and Gopalpur Ports in Odisha.

The meteorological department has forecast very rough sea conditions along and off the Odisha coast from Thursday evening to Sunday morning.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea till December 11 and farmers were asked to shift their harvested paddy from the fields to safe places to avoid loss or damage.
