Everton boss Allardyce to miss Europa League game at Apollon

Everton have been living in the shadow of bitter rivals Liverpool for quite some time now, and will be hoping that the switch to a larger arena will help them compete financially with the Premier League's elite clubs, and subsequently close the gap on the Reds.

It is also a chance for Morgan Schneiderlin to revive his Everton career.

Schneiderlin sees Allardyce's appointment and Thursday's fixture as an opportunity for a fresh start having struggled for form so far this term.

"I want to prove (myself) in every game and of course there is a new manager coming in so it's a fresh start for everyone".

"If Sam Allardyce goes to Anfield on Sunday and wins, believe you me, he will probably go down in history for that win alone", added Bellew.

Shakespeare and fellow coach Duncan Ferguson will take charge of the already-eliminated Toffees in their final Group E tie at Tsirio Stadium on Thursday evening, with Allardyce unable to travel due to a pre-arranged medical appointment and assistant Sammy Lee remaining at Finch Farm to work with the scores of first-team players that have been left behind.

The stakes were considerably higher when Shakespeare was last in charge of a European match eight months ago, with his Leicester team ousted from the Champions League by Atletico Madrid at the quarter-final stage.

Shakespeare was sacked from his first permanent managerial role two months ago but revealed thoughts about returning to such a post have been shelved now he is back in a coaching capacity.

"I just think they're so explosive, so fast, so good going forward".

The likes of Sandro Ramirez, Davy Klaassen, Muhamed Besic and Joel Robles will all be handed opportunities to impress the club's new management structure, while James McCarthy should see game time as he continues his recovery from a troublesome hamstring strain.

"I want to turn the page".

James McCarthy and Sandro Ramirez are two players that would have expected to play some part against a team that now occupy fifth place in the Cypriot First Division, with suggestions that the former was hoping to get 60 minutes under his belt.
