Garda amongst two people injured in Dublin shooting

"I learned with concern this morning that a member of An Garda Siochana was shot and injured in the course of a Garda operation in north Dublin", he said.

Armed officers from the Emergency Response Unit had broken down the doors of the house when at least one shot was sacked at them.

It's believed that the garda was shot from inside a property as officers tried to enter the premises.

A member of the Irish Garda and a man have been shot in Dublin.


When the gardai gained entry, there were further shots fired and a man inside the property was shot.

The incident happened in the Barnwell Drive area of Ballymun. "Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening".

It has been established that the Garda Ombudsman has been notified of this morning's incident due to the fact a gun was discharged by a garda member during a planned operation. They have taken too hospital for treatment.

Whether armed or unarmed, frontline gardaí know that then they say goodbye to their loved ones each day, they can not guarantee their own safe return at the end of every shift.
