Although there are no details on how the "interactive" elements of the series will work, viewers will guide the actions of one of the hackers, Kelly.

The next project from Sam Barlow, the creator of critical-darling Her Story, is an adaptation of the 1983 Cold War thriller War Games, appropriately titled with a modern twist #WarGames, interactive entertainment company Eko announced today. It follows a group of young hackers who get involved in "a thrilling tale of modern espionage, hacking and government conspiracy", according to the official press release.

The original WarGames starred Matthew Broderick as hacker David Lightman, a high school student who unwittingly hacks into a USA military supercomputer, dubbed the WOPR, while searching for new video games to play.

The series is only loosely based on the original movie and seems to have much more in common with Mr. Robot. The aesthetic of the interactive series is in line with Barlow's acclaimed video game Her Story as well, which was an interactive movie video game told exclusively through video clips from fictional police interviews. As the story's progressing, all these different characters are talking to each other over the internet, and all of their windows are up on the screen. If they're watching a live TV broadcast, you'll see that.
