So he's hopeful Tim Hardaway Jr.'s "stress injury" won't derail the season.

If it's a stress reaction, the Knicks should get Hardaway back in a couple of weeks. Marc Gasol's 21 points led the way for Memphis, which has still lost five in a row on the road.

If Wednesday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies was any indication, it might not be that hard.

New York Knicks guard Tim Hardaway Jr.is going to be out for a while he recovers from a stress injury in his lower left leg.

Back in the lineup Wednesday, Porzingis scored 18 points and made a bigger impact on the defensive end as a rim protector.

Hornacek also said he didn't know the rehab or treatment plan that the team announced Hardaway had started.

"We know we can't outscore teams at this point".

"We stood around too much", Grizzlies interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. If New York (12-12) sputters with Hardaway out, team president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry might choose to unload veterans at the trade deadline with an eye toward the draft.

But if the Knicks can tread water during Hardaway's absence - and remain in playoff contention into late January - maybe Mills and Perry look to bolster the roster at the February 8 trade deadline and make a push for the postseason. After a slow start, he established himself as one of the team's most productive players. He was said to be getting treatment.

Now Hornacek and the coaching staff will have to figure out how to make up for Hardaway's scoring and playmaking for the foreseeable future.

But then Lee lined up for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the score at the half, and it felt like an eraser mercifully wiping away two lackadaisical quarters. And he saved the most reassuring sign for the final minute when he took a pass from Enes Kanter cutting along the baseline, dunked and hung on the rim - drawing a technical and the applause of the home crowd.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (11-12): Center Enes Kanter has been a steady contributor in his first season with NY but was part of a starting unit that faltered at in, prompting coach Jeff Hornacek to replace all five starters at once early in the third quarter. Last week, Lee had a simple explanation for his recent offensive surge.

He let Courtney Lee handle the offense.

"That's something you're going to have to ask the doctors", Hornacek said.

"I better warm my arm up", Lee joked after Wednesday's win. "I'm sure we'll find ways to win games".

Their chances are greater now that he said his right ankle was back to "100 percent" after he missed just two games with a sprain, though he admitted to "rust" shooting 8-of-19.

Porzingis, though, doesn't necessarily see it that way. I just wasn't in rhythm and a little rusty. "I'm just going to play my game".

Well, this is a little worrisome for the Knicks because they are now in the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference and they need Hardaway to help Kristaps Porziņģis shoulder the scoring load.
