One of the delights of this year is that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle wasn't just not bad, it was actually rather good!

The new local versus mode lets two players pit their wits against each other on the same screen, using two separate Nintendo Switch controllers, or one pair of split Joy-cons.

Ubisoft has announced a free update to Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle in the form of a local Versus mode. Instead of the usual levelled-up campaign characters, both players will instead choose from upgraded versions of all eight heroes with a possibility to pick an all-Mushroom Kingdom or all-Rabbid Kingdom teams.

You can get an idea of what to expect in the video below - if you live in the UK.

There are also a number of item boxes littered around each map containing tickets for extra movement, additional attacks, or more ability uses, or different power-ups such as damage bonuses or increased chances of your attacks having super effects.

Matches can be customized greatly, allowing players to add a seven or ten turn limit, set time limits per turn and even enable the Showtime option, which strengthens powerups and opens pipes and trampolines around the map once the match nears the last few turns. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is already available on Nintendo Switch.
