At the rate, Nintendo's Switch is being sold it may soon overtake PS4's lifetime sales of 5.5 million units in Japan claims a report by gamingbolt.

Headset sales have likely been buoyed by the continued success of PlayStation 4, which has cumulatively sold through more than 70.6 million units to consumers worldwide.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the latest milestones for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR as well as PS4 and PS VR games.

It'll be interesting to see whether the Switch will manage to catch up with the rival before things level off, but catching up with the Wii U will be much easier, since the total local sales for Nintendo's older console are at 3,328,838. 617.8 million PS4 games have been sold through retail and digital downloads, while 12.2 million PSVR games have been sold through the same channels.

The recent sales report of the Japanese market released by Media Create has not only been accounted for the weekly performance of Nintendo Switch but also for PS4, which registered 124,770 and 25,163 units sold respectively. "I can not thank our fans and partners enough".

The amount is important because it shows that Nintendo has been able to deal properly with the shortage experienced in the first months after the launch of the console because the success has made it a very desired product. "We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play". On the PlayStation VR front, PlayStation says that over 130 games are now in development and set to be released by 2018. Does not include add-on content.
