Shashi Kapoor: Veteran Bollywood Actor Passes Away At 79

Earlier, Pakistani music artists Shafqat Amanat Ali and Salman Ahmad on Monday condoled the sudden demise of veteran actor-filmmaker Shashi Kapoor, remembering how he believed in peace and harmony among neighbours.

Shashi Kapoor will always be remembered for his brilliant line up of films, not just in India but overseas as well.He starred in over 175 films in the span of his career and also revived Prithvi Theatre along with his wife Jennifer Kendal. He passed away today on December 4, 2017 at the age of 79.

Residents of the city of Peshawar in Pakistan, paid tribute to the actor as a crowd of locals gathered and lit candles outside the actor's ancestral home, Kapoor Haveli, which is located in the Kissa Khwani Bazaar area of the old city.

He was admitted at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital here.

In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Indian government.

Actor Randhir Kapoor, son of veteran actor Raj Kapoor, confirmed the news.

He debuted with the 1961 film Dharmputra.

But neither of the men shown were Kapoor - one was his nephew Rishi and the other was actor Amitabh Bachchan. Even as a producer, he continued to surprise his audience with Junoon, Kalyug and 36 Chowringhee Lane and even fantasy film called Ajooba.

Shashi was the widower of Jennifer Kendal (sister of actress Felicity Kendal), and the father of Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor.
