It's one of the most famous X-Men comic book runs of all time, originally published in 1976-1977, and sent ripples throughout the Marvel universe. Turner will be reprising her role from 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse as a young Jean Grey in the Simon Kinberg-directed movie, which will see a "malevolent, power-hungry new force" awaken in Jean when a solar flare hits the X-Jet during a rescue mission in space. In fact, Charles Xavier lands on the cover of TIME magazine, and with his newfound inflated ego he starts sending the team on more risky missions.

Based partially on Chris Claremont's Dark Phoenix saga, it's a storyline Kinberg previously attempted to tell in his screenplay for 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, but the studio reduced it into a subplot. But that's giving Xavier a growing ego that's becoming a liability for the team. Writer/producer Simon Kinberg, a longtime staple of the X-Men franchise, steps into the director's chair for the first time on this film, revealing to EW that it was Jennifer Lawrence who most pushed him to make the jump to directing. "[The film] was so clear in my head, emotionally and visually, that it would have killed me to hand this to somebody else to direct", Kinberg told Entertainment Weekly.

A collection of familiar faces are also on board: James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and more. "There's a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering".

It's about the butterfly effect of this thing happening.

As you can see in the photo, Lawrence's Mystique makeup has taken on a lighter and more alien-esque appearance; in fact, she looks like a blue version of "The Newcomers" race from the Alien Nation franchise.

Additionally, Jessica Chastain's mystery character was identified as an otherworldly shapeshifter who comes into contact with the Phoenix. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to open in theaters on November 2, 2018.
