Winter Weather Advisory in effect for several counties

Our Thursday will be a cloudy and cold day with periods of rain. The high will stay in the lower 40°s.

For folks in Central Alabama, generally along and south of Interstate 20 and north of the USA 80 and Interstate 85 corridor, there could be some weather excitement as we end the work week.

As colder air oozes southward, some of that rain will mix with snow at times Friday. Once again, the best chance of seeing snow will be generally in locations between Birmingham and Montgomery. Still, some minor accumulations will be possible for some.

Temps will likely stay just above freezing with the initial snowfall, with will prevent significant accumulation on the roadways, but light accumulation is possible on grassy and elevated surfaces.

With bridges and overpasses becoming slippery for the Friday morning commute, make sure to drive slowly and carefully, and leave with extra time to spare.

"Visibility will be reduced Friday morning in areas where snow falls".

Models are continuing to look more favorable for the development of wintry precipitation, particularly for eastern portions of Louisiana (from the Atchafalaya Basin and along the north shore).

The extended outlook keeps things on the cool side into the middle of next week, with afternoon highs in the upper 50s to low 60s for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. There remain options on the table for this forecast to change.

Of course, the big question is going to be do we see any snow accumulations.
