The Redmi 5A is Xiaomi Malaysia's most affordable smartphone

Here's everything you need to know about the new budget smartphones. Both these variants went on first flash sale in the country via Amazon India on Thursday.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus comes in Black, Light Blue, Gold and Rose Gold colour option in China.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A as the Desh ka Smartphone in India on November 30. The company promised to make it available in all the major retail stores and Mi Homes across the country. The Honor 7X runs on Android 7.0 Nougat-based EMUI 5.1 and features a 5.93-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display. The base variant carries a price tag of Rs. 5,999 and the top variant has a price tag of Rs. 6,999. It now features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and LED flash. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera sensor. As for the Redmi 5 Plus, well, it's simply a souped up version of the Redmi 5 for those looking for an even bigger screen and more power under the hood.

Inside, the Redmi 5 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor coupled with 2GB or 3GB RAM with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage respectively. The main attraction of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus is the integration of a full-screen display coupled with narrow bezels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The selfie shooter is a 5 MP module with f/2.0 aperture. Their cameras. While both phones come with 13MP rear and 5MP front-facing cameras, the Redmi 5A's rear camera has phase detection autofocus. The dual-camera setup on the Mi A1 offers 2x optical zoom and enables bokeh effect with a preloaded Portrait mode. Out of the box, it runs on MIUI 7.0 with Android 7.1 out of the box.
