Theo Walcott: 'Players want to give Arsene Wenger a selection headache'

Arsene Wenger declares Jack Wilshere "ready" to start in the Premier League when called upon as Arsenal thrashed BATE Borisov 6-0 in the Europa League on Thursday.

Wilshere played a neat ball inside to reach Walcott, whose low cross found Welbeck before Polyakov inexplicably smashed the ball past his goalkeeper from the centre of the six-yard box - as if Arsenal needed a hand.

The 25-year-old enhanced his first-team credentials with an influential performance in midfield, scoring Arsenal's third goal and providing the assist for Mohamed Elneny to wrap up an emphatic win with their sixth. We were very professional tonight. "For 70 minutes he was dominant in midfield on the creative side and that's very good news for us". The Saints failed to recruit any attacking players over summer and there is gross lack of competition in and around the strikers.

Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud also scored for the Gunners against a BATE side that offered little resistance.

"You can say the opponent was not at the level of the Premier League and I would agree with you but you can only do your job and that's what we did, in a convincing way with remarkable spirit and finished well the job in this group stage".

As expected, the attendance for the game was rather less than the 54,000 tickets apparently sold by Arsenal.

Wenger is not keen to weaken the squad with the team fighting on four fronts, but admits that it will be hard to keep all his players happy. No matter how many sit in the stands, you have to give them what they expect - and that's what we did. "And that's what the players did", the Arsenal boss said. "You respect people through their attitude and their attitude is fantastic".

Of course we only come with things when they are done, but most of the time it's a year and a half - or more - of work'.
