When asked why, the company noted, "The countdown to the Ataribox launch on Indiegogo has been officially paused".

In a newsletter that was sent today, the company announced that "it is taking more time to create the platform and ecosystem the Atari community deserves", due to it not being able to complete "one key element". We are honestly shocked there is still an Atari community but yeah this is still disappointing news nonetheless.

The company announced today that, even though pre-orders were supposed to happen, it's chose to delay the launch of its crowdfunding program. The correspondence did not give a new date for pre-orders but did say they would be "updating the launch plan soon". The AtariBox team also promises to keep customers in the loop about the system's progress.

Pre-orders were meant to start for the all-new Atari console today, 14 December 2017, but Pocket-lint has been informed that it has been delayed. In the meantime can we interest you in an Atari Speakerhat your troubles this morning or nah? (The Atari Flashback consoles don't count, as those are made by the folks at AtGames.) There's no word of game support just yet, or even a list of third parties that will be supporting the system.

In terms of tech, it'll have an SD card slot, HDMI output and four USB ports for joysticks and controllers. "We wanted to create a killer TV product where people can game, stream and browse with as much freedom as possible, including accessing pre-owned games from other content providers".

The Ataribox is looking to reboot the Atari 2600 and its games from the late 1970s and early '80s.
