Energy efficiency, conservation are critical for economy, says President

Heritage Foods Limited of the state has bagged second place in the dairy sector in the National Energy Conservation Awards 2017 presented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power. "All of these are important as the government works towards its commitment to provide 24 x 7 power for all", he said.

"Our needs will certainly grow".

The President also launched a web portal on energy conservation in buildings. Energy conservation and energy efficiency are critical to our endeavours. "The energy that is saved will be used by farmers for irrigation and to preserve fruits and vegetables in cold storages".

"In our traditional culture, people who spent lavishly were not considered wealthy. instead, those who saved to build their wealth were regarded as wealthy", he said, pointing out that numerous banks in south India earlier had been started by people who had saved a lot of money.


Nearly a third of India s power consumption occurs in commercial and residential buildings. However, same has been reduced to Rs 8.32 crore per annum, therefore total saving on account of energy consumption and line maintenance will be approximately Rs 85 crore per annum. Addressing the gathering earlier, Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister R.K. Singh said India is committed to the path of sustainable development.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday earned laurels at the national level by bagging the prestigious first prize for the conservation of energy through its LED replacement programme in the municipal sector.

The President also presented prizes to school children who won the National Painting Competition 2017.
