Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth have had a contrasting start to the Dubai Super Series Finals, with the former defeating He Bingjiao of China 21-11, 16-21, 21-18 in a clash that lasted just more than an hour.

Chou managed to keep his lead from there on and went into the break with a big 11-6 lead against the Indian.

World No. 4 Srikanth, however, couldn't bring out his top game as he suffered a 13-21, 17-21 loss to World No. 1 and defending champion Viktor Axelsen in a Group 'B men's singles match that lasted just 38 minutes. The Indian shuttler played some exceptional badminton in the dying moments of the game but ended up going down fighting 21-18.

Sindhu crushed Japanese Sayaka Sato 21-13, 21-12 in 36 minutes to secure her second straight victory, eliminating Sayaka at the Hamadan Sports Complex.

The other two players in the Group A of women's singles event are world number 15, Sayako Sato of Japan, and world number two Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

Sindhu has faced-off against Yamaguchi earlier as well and has a 4-2 head-to-head record.

Srikanth will have to on his toes as will meet world number one Vicktor Axelsen of Denmark in his first match of the tournament. In an opener where Sindhu was in complete control, the closest the Japanese came to the World Championships silver medallist was when she trailed 8-10.

Srikanth went 0-5 in the first game before he could even bag a point. With the second consecutive straight-game defeat in the group stage, Srikanth is now out of the semifinals contention. Chen evened the score at 17-17 and raised his level further which made life hard for the Indian, who slumped to the defeat in 43 minutes.
