Tottenham boss Pochettino explains Dele Alli struggles

Alli scored 18 Premier League goals last season but has scored just three times in this top-flight campaign, the last coming in October in Tottenham's 4-1 win over Liverpool.

Spurs are now languishing in seventh place, three points off fourth and 21 points off top, after winning just two league games in their last seven, compared to five wins from their seven before that.

For the first time in a long while, Spurs have had a full week on the training ground in the lead up to Saturday's Premier League clash at Burnley and you suspect it was probably overdue.

"We have shown before, with the team we have and the players we have, that we should have done better, and we could have done better", he told Sky Sports News.

The good thing is that mentally as a group we know that every game is a challenge for us and I think that there is an acceptance of that and there's a reality to it.

Tottenham, title challengers for the past two seasons, are down in seventh place, one below Burnley, and are in need of a run of wins to revive their hopes of finishing in the top four. We have similar stats to last season - I think we are only three points down - but we are still in the Champions League.

"Some teams have improved a lot from last season, like Manchester City".

"Always it is to hard to say yes or not", said Pochettino. "We will test ourselves in the first game against Juventus and see where we are at".

"We've enjoyed great success guiding buyers through the purchase process so far and have had reservations for 50% of shared ownership properties already, which is a promising start, illustrating confidence in this fast-growing market".

"We need to keep going".

"There will be some fun games to play and hopefully some exciting times".

Eriksen and some of his Tottenham team-mates were at The Whittington Hospital in north London on Wednesday, handing out presents to children.

"We do (enjoy it)", he said.

He said: "I was so frustrated with that situation as we dominated the game and the way we dropped two points was bad for us".
