CHAN Eagles will start well in Morocco - Okpotu

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubabar has urged the home based Super Eagles to do Nigeria proud in the forthcoming African Nations Championship otherwise known as CHAN starting in Morocco later this week.

A few days ago, Head Coach Salisu Yusuf named a 23 -man team to fly Nigeria's flag at the finals, where the 2014 bronze medallists will play 2014 champions Libya, Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea in Group C. The Nigerian delegation will fly overseas a Turkish flight from Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja en-route Istanbul before connecting Rabat, Morocco on Tuesday.

Nigeria is in Group C alongside Rwanda, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.

Nigeria is participating for the third time in the championship since its inception in 2009 in Cote d'Ivoire, with the Eagles playing their opening match on January 15 against Rwanda.

Abdullahi, who helped the Super Eagles qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation, was part of the home-based Eagles squad that finished third at the 2014 CHAN in South Africa under the late Stephen Keshi.

To reach the finals this time, Salisu Yusuf's wards edged Benin Republic 2-1 on aggregate.
