On nearly appearing in Star Wars: "Yes, [it was] very tempting".

The role in question eventually went to Woody Harrelson, and while many fans thought he could be playing Garris Shrike, Han's mentor from the no-longer-canonical extended universe of novels, Harrelson has since clarified that his character's name is Beckett.

About a year ago, Lucasfilm was on the hunt for a veteran actor to play Han Solo's mentor in Solo: A Star Wars Story - and they almost cast a former Batman to play the role. "There was discussion, [and] I hope there will be future discussions". "Yeah, Star Wars really interests me".

During his chat, the Oscar victor explained that the original Star Wars movies hold a place in his heart, and even his 12-year-old daughter Emmeline is a fan of the franchise. The Last Jedi greatly benefitted from performances from "A-list" actors like Laura Dern (Admiral Holdo) and Benicio Del Toro (D.J.), and having Christian Bale in a future movie would serve the objective. The film has its share of problems during production and Williams providing the theme for such a beloved character will help to ease the minds of Star Wars fans.

As it turns out, this isn't just a passing fancy on Bale's part, as he also revealed he is, in fact, a "huge fan", that he still has his Millennium Falcon and AT-AT toys he collected as a child. "She absolutely adored Darth Maul", the 43-year-old shared.

Lucasfilm has up to five films in various stages of development that could use an actor with Bale's skills - Star Wars: Episode IX with J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson's standalone Star Wars trilogy, and at least one other (if not more) standalone solo movies. He said he still hasn't seen Ben Affleck as Batman. "People seem surprised at that, I don't know why", he added. He went on revealing, "I've not seen any of the "Avengers" films or any of those films at all. I hear they're very good, but I'm quite happy just hearing they're very good".

Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Paul Bettany all co-star in Solo, the second standalone spin-off after 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
