The changes on the Packers coaching staff won't be limited to the defense.

McCurley has spent 12 years with the Packers, originally joining the organization as a coaching administrative intern in 2006.

"It's fit. I'm very comfortable with where I am in my career", McCarthy said Thursday during his season-ending press conference. Philbin spent the past two seasons as the Indianapolis Colts' assistant head coach and offensive line coach under Chuck Pagano, who was sacked earlier this week.

Associate head coach Winston Moss, cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr., and safeties coach Darren Perry are three internal candidates to replace Dom Capers as defensive coordinator.

General manager Ted Thompson also took some of the fall, getting moved to a senior advisor position.

Green Bay was 4-1 when Rodgers was injured in a Week 6 clash with Minnesota and the team never recovered.

McCarthy said Thursday his team didn't meet the expectations set in Green Bay, but he wasn't going to use multiple injuries, especially to MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as an excuse. "I'm more focused on the fit of the GM", McCarthy said.

"But this is my professional responsibility, it's in my job description and I have to do what I feel gives the Green Bay Packers the best opportunity to win - to win it all in 2018".

Two sources said coach Mike McCarthy had chose to remove longtime assistant coach Edgar Bennett from the offensive coordinator position he had held since 2015.

Hanging over all of it, though, is the uncertainty of who'll be the team's next GM - someone who, according to team president/CEO Mark Murphy, will maintain the power to hire and fire the head coach.

"The part that no one wants to talk about is the personal aspect of it". The Packers' Super Bowl victory in 2010 marked the highlight of Thompson's 13-year tenure as GM. "I've been fortunate to have worked with many dedicated people throughout the organization and I can't thank Mark Murphy, Mike McCarthy, the football-operations staff and our scouts enough for their friendship and support", said Thompson.

Who do you think should take over as the new offensive coordinator? "We've going to evaluate every aspect of the football operations".

One of the NFL's model franchises for stability and success, the Green Bay Packers have embarked on an offseason of change after missing the playoffs and finishing with a losing record for the first time since 2008.
