Mnangagwa to visit Namibia on Monday

In his response to Moyo's claims on the BBC's HardTalk programme that the military had issued a death warrant on him, Charamba said the former cabinet minister was "running away from fears of his own making".

"The visit is being conducted in the interest of further strengthening the existing excellent bilateral relations between Namibia and Zimbabwe and to consider new possible areas of cooperation", said Albertus Aochamub, press secretary in the Namibian presidency.

Charamba added that Moyo had placed a burden on the former President, Robert Mugabe, whose house he dumped his large family at.

It was unclear where he gave the interview.

Trade between Namibia and Zimbabwe generated only N$24 million (about US$1.9 million) in 2016, a situation that President Geingob said was unacceptable.

Mnangagwa was dismissed two days later and fled the country, only to return triumphant in the wake of the coup.

"The army deployed itself in Zimbabwe when the constitution says only the president can deploy it", he said.

The G40 enjoyed the support of Grace Mugabe who was thought to be keen on taking over from Robert Mugabe.

The Kenyan government recently denied offering asylum to Moyo, who is wanted in Zimbabwe on allegations of corruption - in particular, the embezzling of funds meant for tertiary institutions.

He pointed to Mnangagwa's visit last week to ailing opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai as evidence of the new president's efforts to assert himself politically. "They do not want to have free and fair elections let alone credible elections". A Malawi publication this week claimed that he was in that country.

He said many Zimbabweans had "burning questions" over what had happened to the former leader, Mugabe, who had been humiliated by the military intervention.

"They have declared a bhora musango (sabotage voting) in 2018 and we get anxious when we hear that the likes of Zhuwao are still having a say in the structures of the party".
