A woman and two children are dead following a three-vehicle collision in Southern Illinois Thursday morning. The police news release did not name the children.

The crash happened around 6:23 a.m. Thursday on US 45, south of Illinois Route 169.

According to the Illinois State Police, Rachel E. Killian of Marion, Illinois, was traveling north on USA 45 South of Route 169 and ran off the right hand side of the road.

After leaving her lane, Killian then struck head-on the black 2014 Chrysler 300 Karla R. Reichert, 57, of Karnak, was driving south, the police narrative said. Her vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway.

Killian's vehicle hit a auto driven by 57-year-old Karla Reichert of Karnak. Police say nobody in the vehicle was restrained except the 9-month old, who was in a auto seat. Three other passengers in that vehicle - two 3-year-old girls and a 9-month old boy - were taken to Baptist Health Paducah with serious injuries.

According to the police report, Killian and her 1-year-old passenger were pronounced dead on the scene by the Massac County Coroner. Killian was not wearing a seatbelt, and none of the other children was wearing a seatbelt or was in a child seat, police reported.
