Activism At The 75th Golden Globes Went Beyond Black Dresses

His win reportedly marked the second time an actor of South Asian descent has won a Golden Globe in 35 years.

Many winners and presenters at the Beverly Hills ceremony addressed the ongoing scandal - with host Seth Meyers setting the tone with his opening monologue. The Golden Globes weren't ideal, to be sure, and there's still much more to do to truly call time on the awful things plaguing this industry, and this society.

In one of the most emotional moments of the night, Oprah Winfrey spoke to all of the young women watching the ceremony while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award in honor of her long and successful career. "Also it's the way people speak when they're not being the best people that they might hope to be". That speech kicked off speculation that Winfrey was considering a presidential bid in 2020.

As well as winning Best Film, "Three Billboards" picked up the Best Actress (Drama) award for Frances McDormand, Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell and also Best Screenplay.

It won the best film drama award, with its star Frances McDormand also picking up a trophy for best actress. Its outstanding cast in a motion picture award has meshed with the Oscar's best picture six times in the last decade.

Of course, this being a Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths) movie, there's much more to the characters than meets the eye in his latest compelling, enjoyably unpredictable film.

Kirk Douglas was given a rapturous reception, at the age of 101, as he came on stage to present an award with daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The movie "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' was named Best Motion Picture - Drama".

Despite its seemingly obvious status as an awards contender, The Post likely missed out due to its release.

These are largely seen as precursors for the Oscar nominees, due to be announced later in January.

Gary Oldman won best actor in drama for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour".

Unsurprisingly, fans weren't happy that Call Me By Your Name was snubbed. However, Guillermo del Toro did win his first Globe for directing The Shape of Water. The Shape of Water was the most nominated film this year and it largely missed out, but for Del Toro's victory and a nod for Alexandre Desplat's lovely score.

However, with her daughter's bad demise having taken a serious toll on her family unit - teenage son Robbie (Lucas Hedges) and recently estranged husband Charlie (John Hawkes) - Mildred is not accepting any excuses. "Give me a minute". It is not unheard of for there to be a split between Best Director and Best Film at the Globes.

It's hard to claim that Jordan Peele's spectacular satirical horror Get Out was ever a front-runner in this season.

"Actress, Musical or Comedy: "Judi Dench, "Victoria & Abdul", Helen Mirren, "The Leisure Seeker", Margot Robbie, "I, Tonya", Saoirse Ronan, "Lady Bird", Emma Stone", Battle of the Sexes".

The film is a deserving award victor, but was snubbed by the HFPA.
