Anti- Sexual Harassment Movement Takes Over 2018 Golden Globes

It was lost on few that Winfrey was accepting an award named for a man who helped cement a culture of male domination in Hollywood. For once, everyone was listening to what the women of Hollywood had to say. Some of the highest-profile actresses brought female activists as their dates. Reese Witherspoon, who co-stared with Oprah in the movie A Wrinkle In Time, presented her with the award, and gave praise to the legend.

"I do think she's intrigued by the idea, I do think that", King said.

With her usual charisma, Oprah had the crowd gathered at the Beverly Hilton on its feet cheering.

Meyers also looked back on his infamous roast of Trump at the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner, which the then-reality television star attended while promoting his unfounded conspiracy that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States. He said Republicans won't cross a president who controls their base regardless of what he says or does.

This has been a major topic in recent months in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and so, the awards ceremony was the ideal opportunity to make a stand.

She expressed gratitude for Taylor and all the women who were silenced when they spoke their truth to powerful men, the women who worked in factories, farms, as domestic workers and in academia, whose names will never be known. "Their time is up!"

Numerous female recipients, including Nicole Kidman and Laura Dern, both of "Big Little Lies", spoke about the need for the telling of women's stories and the change those stories can bring. Her appeal extended well beyond her celebrity, some said, citing her compassion, kindness and devotion to helping others as a badly needed change after Trump.

Other winners continued the theme. Dennis Swanson who took a chance on me for "A.M". "The Handmaid's Tale" later added the award for best TV drama series.

With everyone clamoring for Oprah Winfrey to run for president in 2020 after giving her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday, some are wondering if she can add Ivanka Trump to her list of potential supporters.

Guillermo del Toro's Cold War-era fantasy The Shape of Water won for its score and del Toro's directing. And while a return to the network is considered likely, it's technically up in the air as to where next year's Globes will run.

The animated film Coco took best animated feature and the musical The Greatest Showman took best original song for "This Is Me". "I want her to run for president", Meryl Streep told The Washington Post.

The Golden Globes leaned in to the spirit of "Time's Up" wholeheartedly, and many found themselves unexpectedly moved by everyone's seriousness.

"I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association because we all know the press is under siege these days".
