The footage kicks off with Matthews asking: "Can I have some of the queen's waters? I deeply regret it and I'm sorry".

The story does not say how the audio and video were obtained.

Then, as he waited for his water, Matthews joked: 'Where's that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?'

Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sits with Chris Matthews on the set of the MSNBC Hillary Clinton Town Hall on March 14, 2016 in Springfield, Illinois. Cosby, it should be noted, has been accused of drugging women before allegedly assaulting them.

Jennifer Palmieri, the Clinton campaign's communication director who was present for the interview, said in a tweet Friday that watching the video of Matthews "makes me feel ill".

"There are no words".

The website also listed some of Matthews' controversial remarks about Clinton, some of which were made on air.

He apologized in 2008 after he said that Clinton became a US senator and a leading presidential candidate only because "her husband messed around".

She has a "cackle, ' a 'scolding manner in terms of her public speaking, ' and some men believed her voice is like 'fingernails on a blackboard" said Matthews over the years.

"Precious waters?" Matthews was seemingly referring to Clinton. She didn't win there on her merit'.

Two sources familiar with the situation told The Daily Caller that Matthews paid $40,000 to settle with an assistant producer on his show, "Hardball with Chris Matthews", in 1999 after she accused him of harassment. "Runway walk", he could be heard saying.

The MSNBC spokesman said that they thoroughly reviewed the situation at the time and that Matthews received a formal reprimand.
