Not only was the long rumoured remaster officially announced, it's also coming to Nintendo Switch when it launches this May. And in case of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, the game will be upscaled to 4K resolution and 60 FPS. Though this an important occasion of Nintendo, it's also an important one for the Dark Souls franchise as well, as it's the first time the franchise will be available on a handheld device.

From their first timid steps to absolute mastery, players will build their characters by strategically adapting to daunting foes, exploring haunting locations, and amassing a large collection of weapons, armour and magic spells to utilise for a truly unique playstyle.

"Dark Souls: Remastered delivers the same great gameplay, online mechanics, and environmental storytelling that has inspired countless game players and developers", said Kasumi Yogi, Associate Brand Manager for Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc.

This means that we'll soon be able to play through the entire Dark Souls trilogy on modern consoles. This edition offered all of the DLC for Dark Souls II, along with enhanced visuals for modern consoles. That could rely on how well the Switch version of Dark Souls: Remastered sells, but that's just speculation on my part.

Bandai Namco and From Software have announced that Dark Souls Remastered will also be headed to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. While there's a lot of cool stuff in this bundle that hardcore Dark Souls fans are sure to love, that's a steep price to pay, especially considering most people probably already own Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III.
