The shelter is hoping that by sharing her story they can find Cathleen a new home that she'll enjoy.

After her family moved to a new home in the Oklahoma city of Seminole, they decided the couldn't keep Cathleen, a 6-year-old Great Pyrenees mix, and gave her to someone living in Prague, a little less than 20 miles away, according to KOCO.

And when she couldn't find her family the first time, the homesick pooch made the journey again.

Case in point: A dog named Cathleen walked nearly 40 miles to find her previous owners, who could no longer take care of her. "She wants to be everyone's friend".

A heartbroken dog has walked over 30 kilometres to her previous family twice after being given up for adoption.

Cathleen is not the only dog who was recently reunited - however briefly - with her owners in a remarkable fashion.

She was described as the flawless family pet - humble, kind, healthy, housebroken, loves children, plays well with other dogs and doesn't pull on a leash.

This dog knew where she belonged, and distance was not an obstacle.

Cathleen found a home, the Seminole Humane Society said in a Facebook post Friday.

"She's very sweet. Very calm and docile". 'We are working hard on just the flawless, secure place'. Acker said the Prague owners eventually gave her up because they couldn't control her wanderings.

The humane society told KOCO that it has received several applications from people wanting to adopt the dog.
